Canada's defence capacity can be read from the ground up. McIlvenna Bay has produced its first copper, zinc and pyrite concentrates; Bombardier has agreed to absorb a 750-person Mississauga aerostructures operation; and Canadian firms and innovation hubs are joining transmission, integration, testing and commercialization. Farther along the chain, NATO DIANA has selected an adoption-focused cohort, DRDC has defined the real operating conditions for Arctic drones, MAPLE STRIKE has exercised the command infrastructure behind airpower, and the U.S. Army has placed its first production contract for a high-energy laser. Together, the records show that capability gains value at the handoff between inputs, skilled production, integrated systems, adoption support, explicit requirements, exercised operations and funded production. The defence opportunity extends well beyond the purchase of military platforms. It includes the power and computing infrastructure behind advanced systems, the sensing and launch services that support sovereignty, and the facilities and skilled people needed to turn designs into dependable output. Today’s developments show different stages of that work. Banks are widening financing commitments. Dominion Dynamics has opened four routes to compete for drone-related work. Bell proposes a major expansion whose phases depend on customers and power. Wyvern is seeking programme financing, while Maritime Launch has resolved an execution milestone. Brampton’s proposed industrial conversion brings a workforce dispute into view, and Qubic provides a smaller example of paid testing connecting a supplier with a public customer. The useful measure of the summit will be how these stages connect: capital suited to the project, operational demand that can sustain it, and evidence that suppliers can deliver. For Canadian companies, the practical opening is to identify a specific role in that chain—an integration problem, a test requirement, a construction package or a service a customer will buy. There is tangible progress alongside the uncertainty: Nordica has arrived in Canada for charter service. Allied developments also sharpen the picture, from the price of a new F-35A to the practical work of refuelling an unmanned vessel. The cyber investigation closing this edition supplies a useful counterpoint to claims of unstoppable AI attackers: branch protection stopped an attempted backdoor, even as other parts of the intrusion progressed. The useful next conversation is specific: preserving a distressed supplier’s technical continuity, meeting a buyer’s physical constraints, or proving the customer and integration case behind a financing request.
