QNX embedded operating systems and safety virtualization
QNX provides the operating-system and virtualization foundation for embedded applications sharing hardware. QHS 8.0.4 has a specific safety component approval and Safety Manual; ordinary QH 8.0.5 is uncertified. The system's usable assurance depends on its approved software version and hardware integration.
QNX supplies embedded operating-system and virtualization components for mixed-criticality integration. QHS 8.0.4 is a safety component with approved-version and Safety Manual obligations; a separate TÜV revision list names QOS 8.0.4. Ordinary QH 8.0.5 is uncertified and cannot be used in safety-related production.
Technical detail
Core features
Microkernel separation of host and guests, with independent VM scheduling and SMP or bound multiprocessing CPU pinning.
ARMv8/v9 or x86-64 hardware virtualization; ARMv8 AArch64 host extensions operate at EL2.
Guest memory and device configuration is validated; smmuman and hardware SMMU constrain DMA to approved memory regions.
Emulated, VirtIO paravirtualized and physical pass-through devices; native host applications run alongside guest VMs.
Ordinary QH 8.0.5 tested guests include QNX OS 8.0.5 and Ubuntu 22.04; its AMD SVM package is experimental.

Use & integration
Recorded applications
Integration of mixed-criticality guest workloads on shared embedded computing hardware.
These describe the reviewed application scope, not confirmed deployments, released requirements or procurement eligibility.
Evidence of maturity
QHS 8.0.4 appears in the March 2026 TÜV revision annex; Safety Manual and approved-version conditions apply. The QHS brief marks ISO/SAE 21434 in progress. QH 8.0.5 is a separate uncertified product.
Commercial availability
Licensed embedded components and integration support. Guest OS, board, device sharing, SMMU and Safety Manual requirements need a system-specific assessment.
