About Xanadu
Canadian quantum-technology company developing photonic quantum-computing hardware and software.
Operating context
Xanadu combines photonic quantum hardware with the PennyLane software ecosystem. Its peer-reviewed Aurora work demonstrates a modular architecture linking 35 photonic chips through fibre, with 12 physical modes per clock cycle and real-time decoding. The authors characterize it as a subperformant scale model: optical loss remains a barrier to fault tolerance. Most of the system operates at room temperature, but photon-number-resolving detectors require cryogenic cooling. The 2026 manufacturing investment addresses packaging, testing and assembly capacity rather than proof that a fault-tolerant commercial machine is available.
