About Phantom Photonics
Phantom Photonics develops optical sensing based on quantum coherence, originating in the University of Waterloo’s quantum-photonics research. Its maritime work now includes AQUA, a funded project to integrate subsea imaging with a commercial autonomous surface vessel and onboard analytics.
Operating context
AQUA is intended to offer subsea imagery as a service using an autonomous surface platform. The announced applications include finding lost fishing gear, monitoring habitats and inspecting the underwater environment. The September 2026 funding announcement describes a development programme, leaving the platform identity and completed end-to-end field performance to be established.
