About Oneka Technologies
Sherbrooke water-technology company developing modular offshore desalination buoys that use wave energy to pressurize seawater for reverse osmosis and deliver freshwater ashore.
Operating context
Oneka's offshore buoy design combines wave-driven pumping, filtration and reverse osmosis, with freshwater piped ashore to storage or a distribution system. The modular architecture allows arrays to be sized for coastal customers, but suitable wave conditions and marine integration are central to site fit. Its Glacier programme is still a funded scale-up effort covering hull structure, seabed anchors, operational data and maintenance methods through March 2027. XPRIZE's semifinalist list independently places Oneka in system-level desalination development after initial physical testing. The Asfalcom Chile arrangement adds a named industrial pathway, although the inspected announcement is an MOU rather than a commissioning certificate.
