Operating context
Mitacs connects organizations and post-secondary researchers through co-funded research internships. Its dedicated Defence and Security call closed on August 17, 2026; that closure should not be read as closing all Accelerate activity. The targeted call used enhanced internship-unit values and matching contributions, distinct from standard Accelerate's $15,000 award with a $7,500 partner contribution per four- or six-month unit and its separate postdoctoral model. Mitacs is also transitioning applications to Mitacs Plus while maintaining concurrent submission routes. A prospective partner should ask an advisor which funding model and platform apply, identify an eligible academic supervisor, and define a research project with appropriate data and IP terms. Participation funds R&D and talent development rather than establishing a defence procurement award.
