About Exterra Technologies
Quebec mineral-processing technology company developing circular reagent-regeneration and hydrometallurgical flowsheets for recovering critical minerals from ores and legacy mine residues.
Operating context
Exterra’s circular mineral-processing platform links three functions: ARC regenerates extraction reagents, LOW applies the chemistry to metal recovery, and ROC can convert reactive oxides and CO2 into stable carbonates. Its commercialization pathway now has a defined external test environment. SGS announced in March 2026 that Exterra’s modular pilot and analytical systems would be integrated into laboratories in Québec City, Lakefield and Burnaby, with independent testing of whether onsite reagent regeneration lowers cost and environmental impact. Exterra plans more than C$10 million in associated test work, R&D and pilots. This validation programme is distinct from NRCan’s C$5 million Val-des-Sources demonstration of nickel, cobalt and magnesium recovery from legacy asbestos residues. The evidence supports pilot development and a pathway to commercial readiness; it does not establish proven economics across all ore types or a completed commercial Hub I operation.
