Researchers should confirm whether their work falls under the Scientists Act with NRI's research licensing contact before planning deployment. Its guidance calls for at least 45 business days for the licensing process and a complete package addressing project methods, consultation, translated summaries and applicable ethics documentation. Continuing multi-year work requires renewal information, and substantial changes can trigger additional review. NRI also offers laboratory access in Iqaluit, Cambridge Bay and Rankin Inlet, subject to permission, staffing and safety arrangements. A sensor trial or field campaign should secure both the appropriate research permissions and a confirmed facility/logistics agreement; one does not automatically provide the other.
