NGen leads Canada's Advanced Manufacturing Global Innovation Cluster, connecting manufacturers, technology companies, researchers and investors to develop, commercialize and scale advanced manufacturing solutions.
Operating context
NGen is an industry-led nonprofit and Canada’s advanced manufacturing Global Innovation Cluster. It connects manufacturers, technology developers and research expertise around collaborative commercialization, with free membership providing an entry to the network. Its remit includes automation, machine learning, cybersecurity and additive manufacturing, making it relevant to production capacity and supplier development across civil and defence value chains. Funding is project- and call-specific. The closed Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program illustrates the structure:40% reimbursement for eligible C$1.5–8 million projects, at least two unaffiliated Canadian industry partners including an SME, and substantive Canadian value-added activity beyond a sales office. No partner could receive more than 70% of the NGen reimbursement, and projects must finish by January 31, 2028. These are the terms of that closed call, not a standing offer. Industry events and case studies show NGen’s convening function, while ISED’s aggregate cluster allocation should not be mistaken for uncommitted funding. A prospective consortium should use membership and the funding team to assess the current intake and IP arrangements.
