Operating context
Kinova develops robotic manipulation platforms in Boisbriand. Its Gen3 research arms expose Kortex high- and low-level control through C++, Python, ROS and other engineering tools, with a 1 kHz low-level interface, optional vision and an open end-effector connection. The 6- and 7-DoF variants have different weights and reaches; both specify 2 kg continuous payload across the full range and 4 kg in the mid-range, excluding the gripper. IP33 protection and configuration-specific payload limits matter when assessing a mobile or harsh-environment integration. CED’s C$2.5 million repayable RDII contribution supports productivity equipment, not an operational defence acceptance of the robot.
