Operating context
Innovation Centre of the North (ICON) is a Canadian consortium in NATO DIANA's test-centre network. Saskatchewan Polytechnic identifies four members: 3 Points in Space Media (ARDTIC), Area 55, ACME Testing and Consulting, and its Digital Integration Centre of Excellence (DICE). The consortium offers a route to combine field trials, cold-environment testing and digital validation, rather than a single laboratory service. ICON lists locations in Saskatoon, Thompson, Ear Falls and Grimsby, with a public enquiry route through Richard Borger. Area 55's Thompson facility specifies a 3,800-square-foot cold-soaking building reaching minus 30°C, available December to March, alongside a 19,000-square-foot heated workshop. DICE contributes applied AI, machine learning and prototype-validation expertise; its director describes access controls based on project sensitivity. DIANA participation connects innovators to testing capacity, but bookings require a separate contract with the test centre. Additional TEVV funding can be applied for toward fees; funding, availability and access permissions need confirmation for the proposed trial.
