About Communitech
Communitech is a Waterloo Region technology ecosystem organization and one of Canada's two NATO DIANA accelerator sites, supporting technology companies from startup formation through scale-up and dual-use defence innovation.
Operating context
Communitech supports technology businesses through membership, investment-readiness, go-to-market and applied-AI programmes in Waterloo Region. AI@Work matches companies with students from the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College to deliver a scoped AI tool, supported by AltaML technical oversight. Participating businesses remain the employer of record, provide day-to-day supervision, attend weekly progress meetings and share student wages with Communitech. The arrangement supplies talent and implementation support while leaving a substantive delivery commitment with the host business. National Defence designated Communitech as a NATO DIANA accelerator site in March 2024, establishing a separate dual-use support role; current DIANA admission follows its own challenge process.
