Operating context
ArcticNet connects academic and northern research partners across environmental, community, infrastructure and economic questions, including the four Inuit Nunangat regions. Its access routes distinguish early relationship-building from full collaborative research. The 2026-27 Connections and Co-Production grants, at $20,000-$30,000, are already under review; the separately described Partnership Research Program call is forthcoming. Neither status should be presented as an open competition today. For a northern sensing or infrastructure project, the practical first step is to establish the community question, northern or Indigenous leadership and a suitable co-design relationship, then confirm the correct call and timetable. Technology deployment alone does not demonstrate local research support or an agreed partnership.
