How it works
AltaML combines reusable enterprise AI modules with implementation and ongoing operation. AltaForge is the platform layer; the company describes deployment in customer infrastructure, role-based access and audit trails. Its three named modules serve different points in a document workflow. ForgeAsk connects documents, policies and business information to natural-language answers with source references. ForgeLens uses computer vision and language processing to extract fields, routes uncertain cases for review and can send high-confidence results into configured downstream workflows. ForgeScribe uses connected data and templates to produce drafts for human review, retaining source lineage and version history. These are supplier-described controls whose behaviour depends on the actual integration.
AltaML’s delivery method moves from problem definition and feasibility to a proof of concept using real data, a pilot with client feedback, deployment and monitoring. The company reports 22 live AltaForge deployments. Its June 2026 GovLab account separately reports six Alberta ministry projects in production, with examples spanning payment-risk analysis, cyber-event clustering, document redaction and capital planning. Municipal road-sign analysis and university admissions work broaden the application settings; these counts and outcomes remain supplier-reported.
The existing capability also encompasses research in Earth-observation image analysis. A peer-reviewed whale-detection paper with AltaML coauthors describes an EfficientNet water-only prescreen followed by Faster R-CNN detection and human analyst review in a cloud workflow. Across 35 satellite images covering about 5,200 square kilometres and a test set of 119 whales, combined definite/possible precision and recall were 0.40 and 0.75 overall. North Atlantic precision was 0.20 and recall 0.74, with 133 false positives. The results show why candidates still need analyst assessment and why performance must be measured for the intended habitat.
GenWhales addresses the scarcity of labelled satellite examples by generating synthetic satellite imagery from airborne or drone data. CSA describes it as a Stage 2 Earth-observation R&D project, with AltaML leading and Hatfield supporting data and experiments. This is distinct from the published earlier detection prototype and from the AltaForge document modules; no common product deployment or accepted operational whale-alert service is established by those records.

Use & integration
Recorded applications
- Enterprise knowledge retrieval and document processing
- Public-sector AI workflow implementation
- Earth-observation image analysis and synthetic training-data development
These describe the reviewed application scope, not confirmed deployments, released requirements or procurement eligibility.
Evidence of maturity
Commercial platform and implementation services, with supplier-reported deployment counts and government-confirmed GovLab partnership. The whale pipeline has bounded peer-reviewed prototype results; GenWhales has a specific CSA R&D contract. Neither establishes an accepted operational monitoring service.
Commercial availability
AltaForge and implementation services are offered through scoped engagements covering data access, integration, evaluation and ongoing operation. GenWhales is a funded R&D work package, not evidence of a generally available whale-monitoring product.
